KEEP NEXT IN STEVENAGE

Introduction

  • Next needs a new home in Stevenage as the lease on its existing store runs out in May 2025 to enable redevelopment in line with a wider Town Centre masterplan.
  • This will enable the existing 41 Next employees to keep their jobs and transfer to the new store, as well creating a further 35 new jobs at the new store.
  • Next has no viable option but to relocate its store.
  • Having undertaken a comprehensive investigation into all other possible sites in Stevenage, Roaring Meg is the only realistic option for retaining the company in Stevenage.
  • The alternative is simply to leave Stevenage altogether.
  • The new Next store will mean that Stevenage residents will not have to travel further afield to a full line Next store in Luton, Biggleswade or elsewhere.
  • The £5 million investment in the new store will further strengthen the local Stevenage economy and the attractiveness of the town’s wider retail offer.
  • Moving to Roaring Meg is a sustainable way forward by re-using and re-purposing an existing vacant building.
  • It ensures that Next, a longstanding Stevenage retailer since 1989, can remain in Stevenage.

Why save Next?

The new Next store at Roaring Meg, will retain all existing jobs in Stevenage and increase Next employment in the town to 76 full and part-time staff.

The new store will be larger than the existing Next store at The Forum and will provide a more comprehensive access to fashion and homeware ranges.

The £5 million investment in the new Next store will further strengthen the local Stevenage economy and the attractiveness of the town’s retail offer.

Moving to Roaring Meg is a sustainable way forward by re-using and re-purposing an existing vacant building.

It ensures Next’s continued future in Stevenage.
